Handmade Flower Press

The Art of Flower Pressing

For the dedicated DIY enthusiast looking to dry and press their own botanicals, I recommend my custom flower press! When pressing flowers, it's essential to remove moisture quickly and carefully while maintaining each flower's natural shape. Traditional presses require frequent checking, tightening, and a drying time of up to 6 weeks. My flower presses are crafted for maximum efficiency and minimal effort, allowing you to enjoy beautifully preserved flowers in a fraction of the time, with vibrant blooms that last longer. Here’s why.

  • Durable Plastic Pressing Plates: Sturdy, lightweight plastic pressing plates are engineered with cutouts to maximize air circulation, rapidly wicking away moisture and preventing mold or browning.

  • Auto-Tightening Elastic Bands: Forget constantly fiddling with wingnuts! High-tension elastic bands are included to hold the press together. As your flowers dry and flatten, the bands automatically contract, maintaining the perfect amount of pressure without any effort from you!

  • Superior Absorbent Layers: My presses use specialized fabric and felt layers instead of traditional paper. These materials are highly effective at absorbing moisture while providing a soft, supportive bed that helps maintain the delicate shape and structure of your flowers.

In the summer, I just pop my presses in the back window of my car while parked in a sunny spot, and they dry out super quick! In the winter, I set them up near the fireplace or a heating vent.

Flower Pressing "By the Book"

Flowers can also be dried between the pages of a book, something that has been done since the Victorian era. However, books have less air flow and will take a little longer to press. They are, however, my favorite method when I'm on vacation since I usually have a book with me! I highly recommend buying a book from a local bookstore when on vacation to store flowers you find along the way!

Plan ahead a couple of weeks before you need your flowers. You can speed the drying time by placing thin sheets of fabric between the page and the flowers to help absorb moisture. You also might consider keeping the book in a warm car or near a heat vent in the winter.
